The Veach Family Rules: Teaching Values for a Purposeful Life & Intentional Parenting

Welcome to "The Veach Life", where we delve into the Veach family's rules for living a purposeful life. We'll walk you through the three essential rules we've instilled in our kids from an early age. These rules aren't just for our family; they can guide anyone seeking to live intentionally and on purpose.

Who Are the Veach's?

Before we dive into the rules, let's introduce ourselves. We are the Veach family. We have been pastoring together since 2010 and have been the lead pastors of an amazing church in Snohomish, WA since 2013. We find our passions in leadership development through equipping and empowering people to become who God has uniquely designed them to become.

Long ago, we were collegiate athletes (soccer & volleyball respectfully) and met during preseason at the college we attended. We have lived in various places up and down the state of Washington and Oregon, and we're raising three amazing kids: Boston, Beckham, and Berkeley.

As part of our (almost) daily routine, we encourage our children with three simple rules that help guide each of them throughout the conflicts and conquests they encounter. Below is a quick recap of those rules. Check out our full podcast episode titled: "S1E1: The Veach Family Rules" for more on this subject!

Rule #1: Veach's Never Quit

Our first rule, "Veach's Never Quit," is a mantra that guides us through life's challenges. Whether it's dealing with tough teachers, demanding coaches, or personal setbacks, we emphasize the importance of resilience. We believe that the world often tries to steal our identity, and quitting can be a slippery slope.

We're inspired by 2 Chronicles 15:7, which reminds us to be strong and never give up, for our work will be rewarded. We're all created to work, and quitting isn't an option.

But as for you, be strong and courageous, for your work will be rewarded. - 2 Chronicles 15:7

Rule #2: Veach's Are Always Kind

Our second rule centers on kindness. We encourage our kids to be compassionate and inclusive. As they head off to school, we remind them to look out for others. If they see someone playing alone, they should extend an invitation. It's crucial to teach them that being kind means respecting others' choices, even if they decline.

We want our children to understand that life isn't just about them. We teach them to have eyes for others, to look out for the marginalized, and to make a positive impact on the world around them.

Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you. - Ephesians 4:32

Rule #3: Veach's Are Leaders

Our third and final rule, "Veach's Are Leaders," focuses on instilling leadership qualities in our kids. While the world may paint a different picture of leadership, we believe that true leaders are servants. They're humble, they lead by example, and they take initiative.

"A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way." —John C. Maxwell

We encourage our children to be the first to help, whether it's putting away their dishes or assisting a sibling. We want them to understand that they can influence their environment positively and be leaders wherever they go.

Purposeful Parenting: Teaching Values, Not Imposing Rules

It's essential to note that we're not suggesting you adopt these rules verbatim for your family. Instead, we encourage you to reflect on how you're discipling your children and instilling values that align with your beliefs. Our goal is to raise kids who love Jesus, know God's love, and contribute positively to society.

Remember, we're not perfect parents, and our children make mistakes. But by being purposeful in our parenting and focusing on these values—never quitting, always being kind, and embracing leadership—we hope to nurture resilient, compassionate, and impactful individuals.
